Upstairs there are two queen bedrooms, each with its own ensuite. Downstairs there is a bunk room with two doubles and two singles, best for children or up to four adults.

Where can I walk my dog in Crescent Head? Killick Beach, north of the creek, has an off-leash area with long, flat sand. At Killick Creek, dogs are allowed on the right-hand (northern) side of the bridge, on lead until you reach the off-leash area. The headland walking track allows dogs on a lead and has views over the Point. For quieter beaches, head south to Goolawah Regional Park, which has off-leash beaches at Delicate Nobby, Big Hill Beach and the north end of Back Beach. Dogs are not allowed in the neighbouring Goolawah National Park.

Location

How far is Fishers Villa from the beach and the Point? About a 5-minute walk to the beach and the village cafes, and a short walk to the famous Crescent Head right-hand point break. At high tide you can paddle from the villa down Killick Creek to the sea.

How do I find the villa? As you enter Crescent Head, turn left onto Belmore Street, then directly right into number 9. Villa 5 is the last villa, closest to Killick Creek. Parking is on site.

What is there to do nearby? Surf the Point or Little Nobby, swim at the family beach and tidal lagoon, play the ocean-view golf course between the headlands, walk the headland track, and explore Goolawah National Park.

Eco design

Why is it called an eco villa? The walls are rammed earth, 92% local sandstone from Bonny Hills and 8% cement, compressed by hand. Floor stone comes from Nambucca and hardwood from the Macleay Valley. A solar chimney draws warm air out and pulls cool air through low vents, eaves are calculated for the exact latitude, and the insulation is made from recycled milk bottles. Hot water comes from Apricus solar tubes, solar panels feed power back to the grid, and a 35,000-litre rainwater tank supplies the toilets and garden.

Does it stay cool in summer and warm in winter? Yes. The thick rammed earth walls and passive solar design keep the temperature steady year round. There are ceiling fans for summer, freestanding electric heaters for winter, and a fireplace in the courtyard.
